As the credits roll up at the end of the documentary
I am left with the scenes that moved me
Of that lone bird on the barb wire flying away
Which village folks eye with a sense of loss and longing
Homes and belongings
Neighbours and memories
Attempts to retrace only disappoints
For the loss is immeasurable
As lives continue on in either side
While the past lies buried
And rebuilding from the ashes
Is to hope towards a healing
The silent cries over precious sacrifice
The many giving up their lives
All appears to be lost in the din
Of another Independence Day celebration.
